Dr. Ray Ortlund joined us for our 2019 annual retreat and delivered a timely encouragement to our Summit Collaborative pastors. The churches we long for will require diligence and wisdom in doctrine, culture, and spirituality.
How do I establish rhythms now that I completely control my schedule?
Pastor Andrew Hopper moved from The Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, NC to plant Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC which is now one of the fastest growing churches in the country. He answers the question of how to establish rhythms when you go from a fast-paced pre-launch season to snail-speed as you work only with a launch team in your new city.
His secret: Break your day into thirds. One third to sermon prep, one third email and “grunt” work, and one third strategy and development.
Many times, when you’re in a highly structured environment, there are things built in that you take for granted–things like a day off, a start and stop time for working, and other healthy rhythms of rest that are essential to taking care of your new congregation.
